The Daintree River is one of our favourite rivers, lined with World Heritage rainforest, cattle country, scenic mountains right out to the mangroves and the Great Barrier Reef beyond. This is still frontier country and you’re sure to see some saltwater crocodiles lounging on the river banks, while we’re hunting for fish. Your guide and host, Will Pritchard, has spent his life fishing the waters around this region. He rates the Daintree River for its diversity of species, paired with impressive views and outstanding nature. A Daintree River fishing charter is one that will make memories to last a lifetime. Fish Hunter FNQ offers pick-ups across Cairns, the Northern Beaches and Port Douglas for the full day Daintree charters. We keep our numbers small and our experience big.

Lure fishing in the Daintree River can produce some memorable moments. The fish you might land include Queenfish, Mangrove Jacks, Fingermark, Trevally and of course the infamous Barramundi. We know where, when and how.

What Our Customers Think

"What a fantastic way to spend a birthday! Will was definitely the best guide for our Daintree River adventure. Will was really knowledgeable of the area, as well as giving genuinely helpful advice as required to help my husband and I catch our first Barramundi on lures and have fun with a range of different sportfish in FNQ. The Fish Hunter sportfishing charter is an experience not to be missed by avid lure fisherman and eager novices alike. Will tailors the quality equipment provided and techniques used to suit both conditions and angler requirements very well. We had an absolute ball and hope to return again!!!"

Caitlin Victoria

"With pick up and drop off at our hotel in Port Douglas, the days fishing with Will couldn't have been easier to organise. The Daintree River is stunning with crocs on every corner and plenty of hot spots to cast too. Will is a great guide and knows the area very well. I highly recommend his guiding services."

Rod Lawson

"I can’t thank Will enough for an amazing day, he promised me my first barra and came through. We fished the Daintree. Missed a few big ones, but that’s fishing. Great guide, great set-up and knows every inch of the river. Picked up and dropped off from home. If you're thinking of doing a charter, give him a call, you won't be disappointed!! I’ll be booking back in next time I'm in town! Thanks again mate."

The Daintree River is an iconic name and fishing location. The areas we fish are determined by the time of year, tides and weather.

During the wet season (December to April) we fish a lot more in the fresh water region, this can be the best time to catch good numbers of Barramundi. Later in the year, we start fishing the brackish and salt regions, fishing flats, mangrove edges and snags, depending on the species targeted.

In the winter months it can be great fun targeting Trevally and Queenfish on surface lures, these are excellent sport fish.

Fish Hunter FNQ provides sole fishing charters to the Daintree River, catering to a maximum of two people. This means personalised service and fishing for your preferences.

Our boat is a customised sportfishing machine. It’s got the latest fish finding equipment, as well as plenty of quality tackle and equipment. We cater to lure and fly fishing, for guests with lots or little experience.

Due to its location, Daintree River fishing charters are a full day experience. Contact us today to book your Daintree River fishing adventure.
